The Smith Bluebonnet program will be coming to an end January 31, 2014!  Read those Bluebonnets and come see Mrs. Pelias in the library.  All students who have read at least 5 books will get to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet of all!  Last day to take a quiz for the medal or trophy is January 31, 2014.  Don't wait until the last minute:)

Fourth and fifth graders are finishing their awesome self-portraits to go along with the Wonder project. The students are enjoying a read aloud of the book Wonder, written by RJ Palacio during their library times.  This is an awesome book that helps to teach tolerance and kindness.  The students will be signing a "Choose Kind" pledge in 2014 stating that they will treat others with respect and kindness.  Ask your 4th or 5th grader which character they think is the kindest!

Third graders will be starting a study on the history of Frisco in the library in January.  Catherine Fowler, former FISD librarian and historian, will come to Smith to share her wealth of knowledge about the beginnings of Frisco!

Flat Stanley is traveling the world through the second graders at Smith.  Mrs. Pelias read the original story by Jeff Brown to the second graders.  Now all of the students are mailing out their own Stanleys to friends and relatives across the globe!

Calling all kindergarten through second grade students!!!  Check out the Caldecott Award and Honor books and draw your favorite picture on a drawing app!  Email your original artwork to Mrs. Pelias at peliasj@friscoisd.org, and she will display them on the library's digital frame for all to enjoy:)

First graders are enjoying their library visits and will use what they know about parts of speech in January to create mad libs with their friends.  Mrs. Pelias will model some silly mad libs for the students and then have pairs of children work together to create their own funny snowman story.

In 2014 all kindergarten classes will check out a Take Home Backpack from the Smith  Library.  The backpack will contain a book, a plush friend and a journal.  Students will enjoy the pack for a week with their family.  After reading the book and playing with the friend, students will write a story and draw(or take) a picture to include in the journal.  Take good care of the backpacks, Kindergarten!

As you can see, we have a lot going on in the Smith Library!!!  Come join the fun!!!
