5th Grade Lunch Bunch read Donna Gephart's, How to Survive Middle School as their last book club book this year! Students LOL'd at the author's funny sense of humor throughout the entire book. Students in book club always enjoy a celebration when they are finished sharing a book. This time we actually got to SKYPE with author, Donna Gephart! She told us about her writing experience and how long it took to become a published author. She also shared several of her books with us.
The main character in How to Survive Middle School has a Jewish Bubbe, grandmother who bakes a delicious apple cake. We were very lucky to have some amazing Smith moms bake the book clubbers cakes from the recipe at the back of Gephart's book. YUM!!! Thank you Nicol Smith, Shawna Hutchison, Treasa Kosanke, Meghan Hamaker, Katherine Burch and Pamela Tracey for donating your time and baking for the Smith students! The cakes were quite popular and delicious!!!
