Children's Book Week
May 16-20

Students at Smith will be celebrating books and reading May 16-20.  Each day will begin with a spirit day and include lots of reading fun.  Students will have MakerDays in the library during their library visit to coincide with #GlobalMakerDays.  During these MakerDays, students will be solving puzzles, building and connecting Clicks and Legos, creating with kinetic sand and deconstructing an old radio to see if they can make it work!  The library will look like a Makerspace Explosion!

All library books are due in the library on May 18 this year.  Students who return all their library books and/or pay for lost books will be receiving a WARM FUZZY again this year.  The WARM FUZZIES are quite popular and are making a comeback to join their other WARM FUZZY friends.

Be sure to take part in Children's Book Week spirit days this year!

Monday's theme is Reading Takes You Places.  Students can wear a shirt from anywhere they have visited!

Tuesday students will Slip Into a Great Book while wearing their slippers to school.  Just be sure to bring your tennis shoes too if you have PE on Tuesdays.

Wednesday is the FAMOUS...DRESS LIKE YOUR FAVORITE Book Character Day!  This is always a fun day full on creative getups!  Look on Pinterest for ideas if you cannot think of amy.

Thursday is a day to show your SMITH PRIDE and wear a Smith shirt!  Students will be meeting with their reading buddies and enjoying a good book with a friend.

Friday is the big finish.  Students will be READING TRAIL BLAZERS and wear green and gold.  The new principal from Lebanon Trail High School will be a guest judge at SMITH BOOK IDOL Friday afternoon.  Let's show him our school spirit and proudly display as much GREEN and GOLD as we can!

A special thanks goes to the PTA and Smith parents who made our book fairs successful this year!  Each child will receive a free paperback book to celebrate reading this year!  Thank you so much for supporting the SMITH READS Library!!!

Happy reading!
